Recently a gentleman tracked me down through the Elder DNA project. He needs help tracking down graveyards or cemeteries near Belfast International Airport and Lough Neagh. If anyone can help he’d be extremely grateful. He plans to visit Northern Ireland near the end of February. Below is part of his email.
I know that a branch of my Family was in Antrim about 1700 before one of them went to America. I am visiting Antrim next month and was wondering if you had any clues about Cemeteries, Graveyards in the area between Belfast International Airport and Lough Neagh? My “Relations” lived in Artemore which I am told by Belfast University is now Ardmore Townland.

The Protestant church of Gartree occupies the site of the ancient church of Kilmackevet, alias Tremfade.
In May, 1933, Mr. John Manderson presented the font that is now in Aldergrove Church grounds.
On that occasion he said he had thought “the font was a horse trough but if it was a holy water font, the P.P. of Glenavy had the best right to it.”
It had lain for years in the yard of the houses occupied by John and William McGarry of Waterfoot.
It is said the stones used in the building of these houses came from the old church at Gartree hence the font. This old church was known as Kilmackevett. “Rulahach” is probably a misnomer for Killelagh in the present townland of Killealy, the Dalnach of the Pope Nicholas Taxation.

“One of the oldest (1712) in the Diocese of Connor, the Church is situated inside RAF Aldergrove, which is a military establishment subject to strong security. I had to be issued with passes for myself and my car and the RAF personnel couldn’t have been more helpful and cheerfully offered me every facility. Services are held every Sunday. The wife of the Incumbent has recently published a book on the Parish of Killead and Gartree, which initially roused my interest.

“There are two Church of Irelands in the parish of Killead, Gartree and Killead,
and the earliest registers in both were destroyed in Dublin in 1922.
Killead Church of Ireland has baptisms from 1838,
burials from 1873, and vestry minutes from 1829.
Gartree has no baptisms before 1901.”

Killead Presbyterian Church has baptisms between 1826 and 1849, and marriages from 1826. Loanends Presbyterian Church has baptisms from 1834-43 and 1874 onwards,

Very useful thank you . I will revisit just before I come to Antrim to find out more about my Grandfathers Family. Meanwhile if anyone has any info on he Megarry family I’d love to hear from them . My grandfather was Born in Muckamore, and lived in Killead with his parents John and Harriet(NeeBlack)in the 1890’s
