James McGilligan of Derrychrier who died 8 Mar 1973. His brother Frank died 12 Feb 1982 and his sister Anne died 21st Jan 1983 are also marked on the grave. This gravestone is located at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Dungiven, Co. Londonderry.
James, Frank and Anne are likely relatives of Michael McGilligan, 1858 of Derrychrier.

The above mentioned grave is that of my Great-Uncles and Great -Aunt. It is situated in Dungiven, Co. Derry, but the name of the church is St. Patrick’s not St. Mary’s.

You mention a Michael McGilligan 1858 and have a headstone from Dungiven.
I researched a Micheal McGilligan who moved to Hartlepool in Durham England, was a councillor and Landlord. My Grandmother worked in his Pub in 1901.
any connection?

Frank,
Perhaps but I have no proof. I do have a contact in Canada who is researching this family. I’ll ask her and get back to you.

Hi Frank, Recently I became aware of the McGilligan connection to West Hartlepool, County Durham, England. What more can you tell me about Michael McGilligan (1856-1927). I know he married Mary Ann O’Boyle and owned a pub in West Hartlepool. His birthplace is listed as Dungiven, County Londonderry, Ireland in the 1901 and 1911 census of England.
