  2. I am wondering whether there is a relationship between Jane Hughes (born Ireland 1835- Source: Canadian Censuses 1891, 1901) and William Hughes above. Jane married in Ireland James Robb c. 1856. He died there c. 1884-5. Their children were born in Co. Londonderry; the youngest reported Co. Donegal as birthplace (Source: Canadian Marriage Records). The eldest son, John Robb (born Co. Londonderry, 1857), married Eliza Burns, daughter of Dysart Burns (farmer) at Ballyarnett Presbyterian Church in Templemore Parish, Co. Londonderry in May 1884. Eliza Burns lived in Steelstown and Ballyarnett; John Robb (labourer), son of Jane Hughes Robb, lived in Carmoney Townland (Source: Marriage Record, N. Ireland).

I am very interested in a Hughes family of Derry. My gggrandmother, Rebecca Jane Hughes b. 1837 Londonderry married James McShane b. 1835 Londonderry
in Malden, Massachusetts. She lists her parents as William
and Isabella Hughes. I believe she had a brother David Hughes
who was born in 1833 in Londonderry. Did you ever come
    across any siblings of John
    Thanks so much
    Libby Gaffney

  4. A correction to my earlier comment: New data indicate that my Jane Hughes (who married James Robb c. 1856, and whose son, John Robb, married in 1884 at the Ballyarnett Presbyterian Church in Templemore Parish, Londonderry) was actually born in 1831, not in 1835. We have no information about her parents or siblings.

    Hi Linda

I have stumbled across some of your genealogy postings with the Badenoch family. From looking at them I have to believe my Badenoch line and yours are connect, but I have not found a direct connection.

Please take a look at my Badenoch tree on WikiTree and see if you agree. Here is jumping in point for my Badenoch line on WikiTree:

  6. Re: Herbert, great-grandson of Dysart Burns. I do not believe that I have seen your query before today. I have a tree on the ancestry.ca/ancestry.com website, the Maria Revington & Samuel Robb of London Twp Family Tree, on which I have placed my research into the Robb family including that of John Robb & Elizabeth (Burns) Robb. I am interested in the Burns family in Londonderry, and I would be glad to share all the information about the Robb descendants of Dysart Burns in Ontario, Canada that I have found. John Robb & Eliza (Burns) Robb’s children are my mother’s first cousins. My email is lcrinklaw@ sympatico.ca . If you receive this message, please email me. Eliza/Lizzy/Elizabeth (Burns) Robb died Dec. 13, 1916, age 58 and 4 months, in Wyoming village, Lambton County, Ontario, according to her death record.
Re: Jane Hughes and James Robb. I have found their marriage record. See LDS site from Ireland Marriages 1619-1898. James Robb, 21, b. c. 1830, s/o William Robb, married Jane Hughes, d/o John Hughes in Taughboyne Parish, Donegal. Taughboyne Parish is 5 miles west-southwest of Londonderry City.
This Robb family seems to have come from the contiguous parishes of Taughboyne, Killea and All Saints in Donegal. James and Jane (Hughes) Robb lived in both Donegal and Londonderry at different times and had children in both areas. This Jane Hughes may not be closely related to the Londonderry-based Hughes family.
