  1. I have a copy of a map that shows the farm “Burnfoot”. It is however in County Antrim, and was apparently the home of my Elder family. (John Elder and Margaret Stewart (Stuart).
The farm borders on the east side of the River Bann, North of Gortaheran and Killycoogan and South of Tamlaght. My great-great-grandfather (the above John Elder), died in Craigs, County Antrim on April 1st, 1898.
He and his wife (Margaret Stewart) had at least 6 children; (John – Robert – Isaac – Joseph – Thomas & Annie) These are the only children we have managed to find so far, although I do suspect there were more. John, Robert, Isaac, Joseph and Thomas moved to Glasgow. Isaac ended up moving to Australia. Both Thomas and John named one of their children David.

  2. My maternal 2X great grandparents Matthew Elder & Agnes (Nancy) Archibald were from Coleraine according to his son Matthew’s headstone erected in the Presbyterian Churchyard Cemetery, Mille Isles, Argenteuil Co., Quebec, Canada. Matthew was born about 1798 and Nancy about 1803. They emigrated about 1845 with son Matthew and had Stewart and Jane after their arrival. I don’t have birth records but believe other children that emigrated were Thomas, Nancy & Mary. This Elder family had close connections with a William Stuart (Stewart) family who also emigrated to the same area. William Stuart was married to Rachel Steen. I have a tree on Ancestry.ca at http://trees.ancestry.ca/tree/25192914/person/1628655902 called Morrow & Elder Family of Mille Isles, Quebec & Coleraine, Co. Derry, Ireland
    Could there be a connection?
